On Friday, April 11th there will be a trail ride which will begin around 12 noon.
On Saturday, we will ride again at 11a.m. There will be examiners there to certify horses (at least two RM and two KM). Certification will be at an unofficial time.
Please see Jamie Hall regarding any certifications.
Additionally, there will be a Pig Pickin' in true southern fashion. Bring a fixin if you wish! The meat will be provided by the SMHC.
We're looking forward to seeing each of you at the ride!
Limited Endurance $150, $135, $120, $105, $90, $75, $60, $45, $30, $15 Distance riding is a fun filled equine sport that is rapidly growing. The top priority for any distance type event is to maintain the welfare of the horse.
Phil Rash & Abbie Hanchey at Leatherwood Mountain have been managing Endurance rides for over 8 years. We will follow the rules that the American Endurance Riders Conference has in place for its events.
Endurance riding is defined by the American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC) as "An athletic event with the same horse and rider covering a measured course within a specified maximum time." Limited Distance rides offer a shorter course, ranging between 25 and 35 miles. The horse with the fastest time is the winner providing the horse meets the 'fit to continue' criteria as determined by a veterinary staff. The horses are monitored by veterinarians throughout the ride at predetermined check points and will be withdrawn from the ride if they are judged to be unsound or metabolically unfit. Each ride has mandatory rests or 'holds' for the horses throughout the ride. Although endurance rides are technically 'races' many (if not most) riders participate for completion rather than placing. To these riders the satisfaction of completing on a sound horse is the prize.
